One of the highlights of the day was this visit to our alma mater,
which was arranged by Loo Thay. (Many thanks to
you, Loo Thay). We were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Mr
Thong Kok Chow and some of the current staff members. To these wonderful
hosts who have graciously given us this Saturday morning of your free
time, we say a very big thank you. Mr Thong is also from the Class of
71, but unlike us, he was from KGV. He briefed us on the developments in
the school and the achievements of the students. Back in the seventies
there were only three Form Five classes - it now has eight! We were also
entertained by the school choir and by some members of the School's
Christian Fellowship. Light refreshments with some 'kuih-kuih' were
served at the school lobby.
Walking down the corridor and the classrooms brought back many good
memories from yesteryears. As Felicia said, "It jolted my memory
and brought back many nostalgic moments". Many of us would agree,
without doubt. Sad to say, the classrooms are in a shabby state with broken
window pains and paint peeling off the walls due to lack of funds. The
stage has the same floorboards since the seventies! However, this has
not broken the spirit of the students, judging from their achievements
as mentioned by the Principal as well as their enthusiasm and participation
in the school activities around the school that morning. "Fide et
Labore" - the school's motto - the two pillars of our success and
to the many more in years to come. What counts most is not the building
but the people who believes.....!
